Sask Bear Producer

OK, here we go, a simple operation with great upside dollars. You bet, this is Saskatchewan, not only does it provide a good net profit, but it also has the opportunity of expansion including adding a camp.
This operation is located in north-central Saskatchewan and virtually has no competition for a super great wilderness hunt. This is black bear country and without a doubt there is no shortage of big, colour phase bears and lots of country to take them. Bear in Saskatchewan can be hunted over bait which makes it a very accessible hunt for any age or skill level. The average price for black bear in Saskatchewan these days is around $4,500-$5,000 US. By the time you get done taking 30 to 35 hunters, that’s over $200,000 CAD gross. Simple and profitable.
Not only do you have the opportunity of taking black bear in the spring and fall, but you also have 20 whitetail you can take as a bonus. In this part of the province whitetail are not as prolific as further south, but they are still there for the taking; what a great combination hunt: black bear and whitetail. Certainly, this gives you the opportunity to hunt two separate seasons and put a few dollars in your pocket.
While you are taking your whitetail hunters, your hunter may also take a wolf. Wolves, at this point in time, in Saskatchewan, can only be taken while in the pursuit of another big game animal, although we are told that this regulation may be changing in the near future allowing outfitters to take wolf as a single species hunt. For the time being, it’s a great combo hunt with whitetail and there’s no shortage of wolf to take in this part of the province, which also bring a pretty good nickel.
Keep in mind, in Saskatchewan, an American can own a concession and be the Outfitter of that concession. This is something a little different than the other provinces and also opens the door to you fellows in the US that already have US operations; it’s a great opportunity for your current clients to span out to Canada and indulge themselves in a black bear or whitetail hunt with a wolf add-on.
This is a very economical way to get into the business and if you do the numbers, I think you’ll find that it pays for itself rather quickly. As in any business, if it pays for itself in a few years, and you still have the business to sell in the future, you can’t lose; even more so if you enjoy operating that business in the meantime!
