MacKenzie:

MacKenzie is located on the south end of Williston Lake and is a destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts. In the winter, Mackenzie hosts dog sled racing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling competitions, and maintains 32 km of groomed cross-country ski trails. Morfee Mountain overlooks Mackenzie and is a popular destination for local hiking and an off-road vehicle destination. Mackenzie has a swimming pool, indoor skating rink, a curling rink, and two developed beaches on Morfee Lake: First Beach is used primarily for recreational swimming, and Second Beach includes a boat launch. Mackenzie is home to Little Mac Ski Hill, a small local ski hill and mountain bike park just east of the main town and is 45 minutes away from Powder King ski resort. The surrounding area has several lakes that are popular for fishing and a healthy wildlife population makes Mackenzie a popular hunting destination.

Williston Lake:

Williston Lake in the Peace River Alaska Highway region of Northern BC, is the largest lake in the province of British Columbia, as well as the seventh largest reservoir (by volume) in the world. This man-made lake was created when the large hydro electric project, the W.A.C. Bennett Dam was built in 1968. Williston Lake, is the dam reservoir, and is in part three different rivers, the Peace, Parsnip and Finlay.

Road access to the Peace Reach and the W.A.C. Bennet Dam is via Hudson's Hope.  Road access from MacKenzie to the Parsnip Reach and Finlay Forks is via the Parsnip West Forest Service Road on the east side of the lake.  Access to the west side of the Parsnip Reach is via the Finlay Forest Service Road.

Williston Lake covers an area of 250 km (155 mi.) in the Rocky Mountain Trench, providing hours of pleasure to boaters and fishing enthusiasts. Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Kokanee, Dolly Varden, and Northern Pike can all be found in the rivers and lakes of the Peace River Valley, including Williston Lake.

There are municipal and private camping sites at both Mackenzie and Hudson's Hope. Boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, photography and exploring are all activities that can be enjoyed on Williston Lake and surrounding area. There are also a number of provincial parks on the shore of the lake. They include Muscovite Lakes, Butler Ridge, Heather-Dina Lakes, and Ed Bird-Estella.
